Our mission

The advancement of the Islamic faith for the benefit of the public in England through the provision of education facilities, holding of prayer meetings and Eid celebrations.

Al Furqan is a non-profit organisation dedicated to calling to the Islamic Faith. It was founded in 2015 by a group of Muslims based in St Albans and has since grown to include 100 supporters and volunteers. The purpose of Al Furqan is to educate the community about living Islam according to the Qur’an and Sunnah upon the understanding of the early generation of Muslims. Importantly, it aims to provides a space for worship, learning and social interaction that is accessible to all members of the community including both women and men, new Muslims, the youth and non-Muslims interested in learning more about Islam.

What we do: Al Furqan runs structured weekly classes for men and women of all abilities and backgrounds to learn the fundamentals of Islam. We also organise the Jummah Khutbah (sermon) which is delivered in English. In the month of Ramadan, Al Furqan organises nightly prayers (Taraweeh), as well the Eid prayer. We also run a Saturday School to provide high quality Islamic teaching for 5–16 year olds. The school currently has 65 students.

A community reconnected to God, guided by the teachings of His Messenger Muhammad (ﷺ) and inspired by the understanding of the early generations of Muslims.

The essence of our vision is: successful and fulfilling lives for all, in this world and in the Hereafter.

The endeavour of our vision is to realise positive transformation in lives through the spread of authentic knowledge and correct teaching. Using knowledge as a driving force to challenge misconceived beliefs and impart the true message of Islam.

We are committed to meeting the ever-changing needs of our local and wider community and believe the realisation of our vision will benefit the wider society leading to peaceful co-existence.

Al Furqan takes its name from the 25th chapter of the Holy Qur’an called Surah Al-Furqan which translates as “The Criterion”. More generally, Al-Furqan means evidence or proof and thus the name fittingly represents our vision and methodology born out of the sources of Islam.
